Collaborating to perform at a lunchtime PATS concert, the chemistry between Electric Dreams was too good to not perform again. “Individually, we’re all from very different backgrounds,” - their combined experience has seen them perform in blues bands, busking and Univision heats. Kat has been performing regularly for over a decade, starting in bands in her local music service in Birmingham. Having made an impression on the crowd at an freshers’ open mic at The Lake, her return to stage performance at Surrey has been sought by many ever since. The Monoliths eclectic mix of styles is the product of melding each members’ tastes into the band’s music, with rock and roll coming through strongest. “We may sound different, but the core is very much 60s rock and roll.” Said difference is stark – their drummer takes great inspiration from Iron Maiden, bringing heavy metal into the mix loud and clear. Established at the beginning of the academic year, Surrey Voices contemporary choir has fast developed a devoted membership. Both experienced singers and performers, the founders, Kat Welch and Scarlett Furness (the latter recently voted to represent @uniofsurrey at @univisionshow), have lent their expertise to create gorgeous harmonies from songs of pop artists such as Billie Eilish. With this, their choral performance promises to be as familiar as it will be fresh to experience.
