TONIGHT AT LIVE FROM SURREY!
Collaborating to perform at a lunchtime PATS concert, the chemistry between Electric Dreams was too good to not perform again. “Individually, we’re all from very different backgrounds,” - their combined experience has seen them perform in blues bands, busking and Univision heats. Already excited for Live From Surrey, they’re even thinking beyond it - “I’d like to just carry on what we’re doing and see where it takes us... we’d love to explore other opportunities around Guildford.” As we’re too eager to see them before then, we’ll be sure to catch their performance on Sunday evening.

Rising to the opportunity, the members of Sad-O-Meter expressed their marvel at the upcoming experience. “We’ve never been on a stage this big before, so that’s new,” - pubs and school have previously proven useful spaces to craft their skills. Fresh not only to the experience, they are also to the university and each other. Their quick bonding is easily explained, “We’re all Radiohead fans because we’re massive nerds.” If bonding is that easy for them, sadness will be the last thing on the mind of the crowd.

Kat has been performing regularly for over a decade, starting in bands in her local music service in Birmingham. Having made an impression on the crowd at an freshers’ open mic at The Lake, her return to stage performance at Surrey has been sought by many ever since. She takes inspiration from Phoebe Bridgers, having a similar voice – we wouldn’t put it past her, one day, to have the tables turned.

The Monoliths eclectic mix of styles is the product of melding each members’ tastes into the band’s music, with rock and roll coming through strongest. “We may sound different, but the core is very much 60s rock and roll.” Said difference is stark – their drummer takes great inspiration from Iron Maiden, bringing heavy metal into the mix loud and clear. The band's name was inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey – ironically yet excitably, The Monoliths are set to be one of the liveliest performances of the night.

Established at the beginning of the academic year, Surrey Voices contemporary choir has fast developed a devoted membership. Both experienced singers and performers, the founders, Kat Welch and Scarlett Furness (the latter recently voted to represent @uniofsurrey at @univisionshow), have lent their expertise to create gorgeous harmonies from songs of pop artists such as Billie Eilish. With this, their choral performance promises to be as familiar as it will be fresh to experience.
